FAQ

Did you know that tea doesn’t actually expire but loses its freshness over time? To keep your tea fresh, always store it in a cool, dry, and dark place, and ensure it’s well-sealed. To enjoy the best cup of tea, we recommend following these guidelines:

Teas and infusions with fruit and nuts: consume within 6 months of the purchase date.

Pure teas: consume within 12 months of the purchase date.

Natural flavors come from natural sources, such as essential oils, essences, or extracts. Artificial flavors are produced in a factory and do not involve any plants or fruits. They might taste similar but lack depth and nuance. We want to confidently drink our own tea and showcase the beauty of nature, which is why you’ll only find teas with natural ingredients in our selection.

Although we offer fantastic unflavored teas, we sometimes create a blend that contains flavorings. In fact, that’s the reason some of our favorite blends taste so delicious! Keep in mind that, no matter how strong the flavor is, the actual amount of flavoring in a brewed cup of tea is almost negligible — about 0.001%. But if flavorings aren’t your thing, you still have plenty of options. We have more than 40 unflavored blends like this one… and that number is always growing!

You’re in the right place! Depending on the type of tea and ingredients, we recommend different steeping times and temperatures to ensure the flavors are just right. You can find our recommended steeping instructions on each tea’s product page.

Most of our teas contain little to no sugar, carbohydrates, or calories. When they do, it’s from natural sugars (like in teas with pineapple) and always less than 5% of the sugar found in most fruit juices or other ready-to-drink beverages on the market, making them a healthier alternative. For more detailed information, check the “Ingredients” section for each tea.

While most of our teas do not contain gluten, they are not made in dedicated gluten-free facilities and are not certified gluten-free. Please carefully check the ingredient and allergen lists, and consult your healthcare provider if you are unsure.

And yes, we have a huge selection of vegan teas! Shop our vegan tea selection here.

Each tea’s product page includes a list of ingredients and mentions any major allergens. Please read everything carefully. If you have an allergy, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before consuming any of our teas.

Yerba mate is more than just a beverage; it’s a complete experience, providing you with the energy you need without the typical ups and downs of coffee. In this article, we dive into the fascinating world of yerba mate. What it is, where it comes from, how to drink it, and why you should consider making it part of your daily routine. Are you ready to explore this remarkable drink?

What exactly is yerba mate?

Yerba mate (pronounced yer-bah mah-tey) is a tea-like drink native to South America. The leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis, an evergreen tree, are harvested, dried, and ground to create a powder-like substance yerba mate. But what makes this drink so special? It’s packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and natural caffeine, but without the jittery side effects often associated with coffee.

The magical origins of yerba mate

Yerba mate has been an important part of the culture in countries like Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay for centuries. According to ancient legends, the Guarani Indians discovered the plant and saw it as a gift from the gods. Yerba mate was not only a way to gain energy but also a social ritual that brought people closer together. Even today, friends and family share this drink, often with a special cup (the mate) and a metal straw (the bombilla).

Why drink yerba mate? A list of benefits

So, why should you add yerba mate to your daily routine? Here are a few reasons:

  1. Natural energy without the Jjtters: Yerba mate contains caffeine, but it provides a more balanced energy boost compared to coffee.
  2. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins: It’s full of antioxidants to help combat aging, plus it contains vitamins B and C, potassium, magnesium, and iron.
  3. Helps with focus and concentration: Yerba mate contains both caffeine and theobromine, offering a unique combination of alertness and relaxation.
  4. Aids digestion: Yerba mate promotes digestion and can even contribute to weight loss by boosting your metabolism.

  6. Social connection: Sharing yerba mate is a social tradition. Invite friends over, drink together, and enjoy the moment!

How to drink yerba mate? A step-by-step guide

Ready to try yerba mate yourself? Follow these simple steps:

  1. Fill your mate halfway with yerba: Use a traditional cup (mate) and fill it about halfway with yerba mate.
  2. Tilt and place the bombilla: Push the yerba to one side and place the bombilla in the empty space.
  3. Pour hot, not boiling water: Fill the mate just below the rim. Let it steep for a moment.
  4. Sip and enjoy: Take a sip through the bombilla and savor the flavors. It might be a little bitter, but that’s part of the charm!

Tip: Feel free to add a bit of honey, lemon, or even mint for a twist!

Is yerba mate healthy?

Absolutely! Yerba mate is known for its health benefits, including aiding digestion, strengthening the immune system, and improving focus.

The taste can be a bit grassy and slightly bitter, similar to green tea. But like any new flavor, it grows on you, and you can experiment with additions like lemon or mint.

Is yerba mate addictive?

While it does contain caffeine, yerba mate is less addictive than coffee, and your body adapts less quickly to its effects, reducing the risk of dependency.

Yerba mate vs. coffee and green tea: which is better?
