    How to prepare Usucha tea?

    1. Warm the bowl: Pour hot water into the bowl to roughly a third of its volume, then dip just the prongs of the whisk in the water (chasen). When the bowl is warm enough, tip out the water and dry the bowl with a clean towel.
    2. Place 2 spoons of matcha (around 2 gr.) in the bowl, using the bamboo spoon. It is best to sieve the powder first to eliminate lumps.
    3. Pour around 80 ml hot water (65-75°C / 150-170°F) into the bowl.
    4. Hold the bowl in one hand and, with the other, beat the mixture sharply with a whisk, in a W shape, until it forms a smooth foam. The Matcha is now ready to drink.

    How to prepare Koicha tea?

    1. Warm the bowl: Pour hot water into the bowl to roughly a third of its volume, then dip just the prongs of the whisk (chasen) in the water. When the bowl is warm enough, tip out the water and dry the bowl with a clean towel.
    2. Place 4 spoons of matcha (around 4 gr.) in the bowl, using the bamboo spoon. You are strongly advised to sieve the matcha powder finely before placing it in the bowl.
    3. Pour around 40 ml hot water (65-75°C / 140-150°F) in the bowl, just enough to cover the Matcha powder.
    4. Unlike Usucha, Koicha must NOT have a foamy consistency. You must therefore not beat it too vigorously or rapidly. Mix slowly, stirring with the whisk in a clockwise direction. You should obtain a tea with a thick and smooth consistency.

Natural flavors come from natural sources, such as essential oils, essences, or extracts. Artificial flavors are made in a factory, without the use of any plant or fruit. They may seem to taste the same, but they lack depth and nuance. We want to be able to drink our tea with confidence and show and taste the beauty of nature, which is why you'll only find teas with natural ingredients here.

While we offer great unflavored teas, we sometimes create a blend that does contain flavorings. In fact, that’s why some of our favorite blends taste so good! Keep in mind that no matter how strong the flavor, the actual amount of flavorings in a brewed cup of tea is virtually zero — about 0.001%.

But if flavorings aren't your thing, you still have a ton of options. We have over 40 unflavored blends like this one ... and counting!

You've come to the right place! Depending on the tea type and ingredients, we recommend different steeping times and temperatures to ensure the flavors are just right. You can find our recommended steeping instructions on each tea's product page.

Most of our teas contain virtually no sugar, carbohydrates or calories. When they do, they are natural sugars (for example in pineapple teas) and always less than 5% of the amount of sugar found in most fruit juices or other ready-to-drink beverages on the market, making them a healthier alternative.

For more detailed information, see the 'Ingredients' of each tea.

While most of our teas are gluten-free, they are not produced in dedicated gluten-free facilities and are not certified gluten-free. Please check the ingredients and allergen lists carefully and, if in doubt, consult your healthcare provider.

And yes, we have a huge selection of vegan teas! Shop our vegan teas here .

The product page of each tea contains a list of ingredients and mentions the main allergens. Please read everything carefully. If you have an allergy, we recommend that you talk to your healthcare provider before consuming any of our teas.

The different ways to make matcha

Usucha is the most well-known form of matcha tea. This matcha preparation contains a medium caffeine content and is high in antioxidants. 2 grams of matcha powder and 80 ml of water are used for this.

Koicha is a matcha tea for advanced users. Koicha has an intense taste of umami, lots of caffeine and even more antioxidants. For this thicker form of matcha tea, 4 grams of matcha powder and 40 ml of water are used.

    Preparation of matcha tea

To prepare Japanese matcha, you need a matcha set. This set consists of a matcha bowl, bamboo measuring spoon, bamboo tea strainer and a matcha whisk.

Making matcha tea starts by preheating the matcha bowl. Fill the matcha bowl with hot water and empty it as soon as the outside of the bowl feels warm to the touch. After this, fill the bowl again with water that has a temperature of 75-80°C.

Sift the matcha powder over the cup with a fine sieve to prevent lumps in the bowl. Mix the matcha and water with the bamboo brush in a W or M motion. Continue whisking the tea quickly until a smooth, frothy consistency is achieved. The thicker form of matcha tea, Koicha, can be eaten with a spoon.

The health benefits of matcha tea

    1. Matcha tea is not only tasty, but is also very healthy. Matcha powder contains catechins, a powerful antioxidant that is known for producing collagen, which ensures healthy hair, nails and skin.
    2. Caffeine in matcha powder helps to increase your alertness and energy levels. Matcha provides a long-lasting energy boost without the usual side effects caused by coffee, for example.
    3. Matcha tea can help reduce inflammation and support the immune system.
    4. Due to its L-theanine content, an amino acid known for its calming effects, matcha tea can help reduce stress and anxiety.
    5. Thanks to the combination of caffeine and L-theanine, matcha can help improve concentration and memory.
